Job Summary:
Pfizer is seeking a Sr Principal Scientist with state-of-the-art knowledge of process chemistry, analytical chemistry, scale-up, and modern synthetic methodology. Expertise in areas such as asymmetric synthesis, green chemistry, catalysis, and physical organic chemistry related to reaction mechanisms is expected.
The role requires a contemporary understanding of drug development, the pharmaceutical industry, and the core principles of process development from both laboratory and manufacturing perspectives.
The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in managing integrated synthetic chemistry development laboratories comprising 15–30 process and analytical chemists. Demonstrated success in delivering projects using sound scientific analysis and judgment to move programs forward is crucial.
This position calls for excellent interpersonal skills and proven experience in leading and mentoring teams. Strong oral and written communication abilities are essential, including maintaining scientific notebooks and preparing detailed reports, publications, synthesis packages, and related documentation.
A rational, innovative, and creative problem-solving mindset is expected. The role involves leading and planning the scientific direction of multidisciplinary projects.
The Sr Principal Scientist will lead a group of 15–30 process and analytical chemists at an external partner site in India. The role focuses on delivering phase-appropriate processes, analytical methods, and vendor synthetic information packages (VSIPs) for Pfizer’s Drug-Linker portfolio.
Responsibilities include working with Pfizer and external partner EHSS teams to implement best practices in the synthesis, purification, and handling of low OEL compounds. The candidate will use deep technical knowledge in organic and process chemistry to develop and lead robust, sustainable, cost-effective processes that meet internal business requirements.
The role also involves developing and refining productivity metrics for resource allocation discussions, creating strategic plans to enhance lab capabilities, and setting up secure data sharing infrastructure between Pfizer and its partners.
Additional responsibilities include streamlining logistics workflows, fostering an inclusive lab culture, ensuring accurate documentation, and building strong relationships with external partner management. Effective communication and resource coordination are essential.
The Sr Principal Scientist will interface with Pfizer’s Global Chemical Research and Development team and stay updated on synthetic and technological advancements, looking for opportunities to implement best practices across global sites.
Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 15+ years of experience in process chemistry R&D toward New Chemical Entities (APIs) or fine chemicals as Sr Principal Scientist.

PhD in Organic Chemistry, API, Chemical Synthesis, or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience -
Experience in leading cross-functional teams is a plus
