Job Title: Assistant Editor
Location(s): Pune
About the Role
- Discover was launched under the Springer imprint in 2020 and is now a distinct imprint alongside Springer, BMC, Nature Portfolio, and Palgrave.
- Assistant Editors (AEs) handle manuscripts from submission to acceptance and support Editorial Board Members (EBMs) throughout the publication process.
- The role involves ensuring smooth communication among all parties (Authors, Reviewers, EBMs, Guest Editors, Readers, etc.).
Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee the overall journal pipeline and process manuscripts from “Ready for Editorial” to final decision.
- Perform enhanced quality checks on manuscripts to meet requirements for editor assignment/peer review.
- Invite potential EBMs or assign manuscripts to appropriate handling editors.
- Find and invite reviewers for peer review activity.
- Support editors throughout the process and build excellent working relationships with them.
- Collaborate with journal editorial staff for process improvements and new initiatives.
- Handle email correspondence between authors, reviewers, editors, guest editors, and readers.
- Assess the decision recommendations of handling editors and communicate the final decision to authors.
- Monitor manuscript progress and provide support to reach the final decision.
- Mentor and support new team members.
- Conduct technical checks at initial and revision submission stages.
- Provide inputs for process improvements to reduce TAT and manage the editorial pipeline.
- Provide training and sign-off support for new team members.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Experience: 2+ years of overall experience with a minimum of 1 year in SNTPS.
Skills
- Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
- Good knowledge of performance metrics.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Analytical and logical reasoning ability.
- Decision-making skills.
Qualifications: Master’s degree or equivalent in Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or Social Sciences.
