BASF is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Manager – Application Lab for its Navi Mumbai location. The role involves managing lab application activities, supporting sales and technical teams, and leading formulation development projects. Objectives of the Position:
- Plan and execute regional, global, internal, and customer-oriented projects.
- Schedule lab application activities to meet study requirements effectively.
- Develop and manage technical activities, including customer projects and application projects.
- Drive application laboratory activities to meet project timelines and enhance lab output.
- Support sales and technical services to build a strong new business development pipeline and meet growth targets.
Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities:
1. Application Lab Support
- Propose and coordinate application projects to develop data for customer solutions in collaboration with regional and global teams.
- Develop formulations for tablets, oral liquids, powders, and capsules using BASF excipients.
- Execute experiments to develop new formulations, including solid orals, liquid, and topical products.
- Work on advanced technologies such as hot melt extrusion and spray drying to support internal and customer product developments.
- Optimize existing formulations by assessing the effectiveness of excipients.
- Conduct pre-formulation studies and stability testing.
2. Analytical Testing
- Conduct analytical characterization of formulations and excipients.
- Follow standard pharmacopeial and in-house testing procedures.
- Utilize HPLC, UV spectrophotometry, dissolution testing, and rheometry for characterization.
3. Customer Support
- Build strong relationships with customers to access growth opportunities.
- Provide support to internal and external customers on product applications, lab trials, and customer trials preferred for Assistant Manager – Application Lab.
- Assist in troubleshooting formulation challenges and enhance product quality through lab and customer site support.
4. Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on formulation development and analytical results.
- Maintain accurate and organized laboratory records in compliance with company standards.
5. Project Activities
- Participate in product development teams for new product launches.
- Initiate and manage projects to raise brand awareness and work with universities and external associations required for Assistant Manager – Application Lab.
- Adapt technical information for local promotion needs and customer engagement.
6. Collaboration
- Collaborate with technical services, sales, regulatory affairs, quality, and marketing teams.
- Participate in customer meetings, providing insights on excipient applications.
- Prepare for lab audits and work closely with lab and interdisciplinary teams preferred for Assistant Manager – Application Lab.
7. Training and Mentoring
- Provide guidance and training to laboratory interns and technicians.
- Identify areas of improvement and communicate effectively with the team.
8. Safety
- Foster a culture of safety and compliance in the lab.

Job Requirements:
- Master’s degree in pharmacy (Pharmaceutics); PhD preferred for Assistant Manager – Application Lab.
- Minimum 5 years of formulation experience in the pharmaceutical and excipient industry.
- Hands-on experience in developing solid oral, topical, and parenteral formulations.
- Analytical experience with HPLC, UV, and dissolution testing.
- Sound knowledge of technology transfer, scale-up, and commercialization processes.
- Strong understanding of GMP standards and key account management.
