Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB) is an autonomous national institute under the Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India). This forward-looking innovation institute aims to advance knowledge, leads, and emerging technologies/processes relevant to the agri-food sector towards applications and products. It aims to link them with societal benefits through catalyzing/promoting entrepreneurial action around bioprocesses, bio-products, value-addition to bioproducts, and more, especially in the agri-food sector. The four major mandated R&D areas at the institute include: (A) Value Addition to Primary Processing Residues/Wastes for Edible Products (B) Valorization of Crop Waste for Speciality Products and Chemicals (C) Nutritionals, nutraceuticals, and upgrading the value or use of bio-products (D) Biosynthetic technology/synthetic biology for low volume-high value products and industrial enzymes.

To support and steer this mission, the institute requires the following temporary research positions on stipendiary/fellowship basis:

(A) FELLOWSHIPS FUNDED BY INDUSTRY THROUGH CIAB FOR INTERNAL R&D PROJECTS/ACTIVITIES

Junior Research Fellow – One position

Age Limit: 28 years

Fellowship: Rs. 37,000/- per month + HRA (as applicable) or hostel facility (if available)

Tenure: One year, extendable annually for subsequent years subject to satisfactory progress, institutional needs, and financial provisions.

Qualifications:

For JRF

  • M.Sc. in Chemistry (any discipline) or Biotechnology or M.S. (Pharma)/M.Tech in Medicinal Chemistry/Process/Pharmaceutical Technology or equivalent degrees in relevant fields from a recognized university/institute.
  • Must have qualified NET/GATE/GPAT or any other relevant equivalent test.

Principal Investigator: Dr. Jayeeta Bhaumik, Scientist –E.

Industry-Funded Project: Development of agri-biomass derived lignin-based cost-effective biomaterials to replace plastic and its derivative-based materials.

Application Procedure

Interested candidates may appear for a Walk-In-Interview on 30-04-2024 with the application form available on the website www.ciab.res.in. The completed application form must be submitted during registration from 09:00 AM to 10:30 AM on 30-04-2024. Candidates must ensure their eligibility before applying, as ineligible candidates will not be interviewed.

Process of Engagement

Eligible applicants will be interviewed by a duly constituted committee. The committee will recommend candidates, if found suitable, for consideration of the competent authority for engagement on a purely Fellowship/Stipendiary basis.

General Conditions

  1. Incomplete applications and improperly formatted applications may be summarily rejected.
  2. The research opportunities are open only to Indian Nationals.

  • Applications should be submitted in the prescribed format available on the CIAB website: www.ciab.res.in.
  • Completed applications and photocopies of relevant educational and experience certificates must be submitted at the time of registration at Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), Sector-81 (Knowledge City), Manauli P.O., S.A.S. Nagar, Mohali – 140306, Punjab from 09:00 AM to 10:30 AM on 30-04-2024.
  • All positions are based in Mohali, Punjab, but some work may be assigned to outstations.
  • Number of positions may vary.
  • Age relaxation for various categories (including women candidates) will follow DST and other Government of India rules.
  • If no suitable candidate is found in any area, no selection will be made.
  • No TA/DA will be paid for attending the walk-in-interview.
  • Candidates must bring their original documents for verification and one set of photocopies (for submission) of all relevant certificates related to education, experience, publications, theses/dissertations, etc. at the time of the interview.
  • Candidates found eligible after application scrutiny during registration will be required to appear before a Selection Committee. In case of a substantial number of applicants, the Chief Executive Officer, CIAB reserves the right to devise criteria to shortlist candidates for the interview. If necessary, a written test may be conducted to shortlist candidates. The decision of the CEO, CIAB to conduct a written test will be final and binding on all parties involved.
