Applications Invited for B.Tech./M.Tech Chemical Engineering at IIT. Here are five  possible interview questions along with their possible answers :

1. Question: Can you explain your understanding of the project’s objectives and its significance?

Answer: The project aims to develop a process for selectively converting carbon dioxide (CO2) into lower olefins like ethylene, propylene, and butylene. This is of immense significance as it addresses two critical issues: mitigating CO2 emissions and producing valuable petrochemicals. Achieving this could have a positive environmental impact and economic benefits for the industry.

2. Question: What experience or skills do you possess that make you a suitable candidate for this Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position?

Answer: I hold an M.Tech. degree in Chemical Engineering and have qualified for CSIR/UGC-NET. During my academic journey, I gained hands-on experience in catalyst synthesis and characterization, which aligns with the job description. My research background and strong foundation in chemical engineering make me well-suited for this role.

3. Question: How do you plan to approach catalyst synthesis and micro-kinetic modeling for this project?

Answer: In catalyst synthesis, I would begin by selecting appropriate catalyst materials, optimizing their composition, and characterizing their properties to ensure they meet project requirements. For micro-kinetic modeling, I would collect experimental data, build kinetic models, and use software tools to simulate and optimize the CO2-to-olefins process. It’s crucial to have an iterative approach for continuous improvement.

4. Question: Can you share an example of a challenging research project you’ve worked on in the past and how you overcame obstacles?

Answer: Certainly. In my previous research project, we were working on optimizing a novel catalyst for a complex chemical reaction. We faced challenges in synthesizing a stable catalyst and understanding its behavior under various conditions. To overcome this, we collaborated with experts, conducted rigorous experiments, and iteratively adjusted our approach. Ultimately, we achieved our goal by refining the catalyst and obtaining excellent results.

5. Question: The project mentions a preference for SC/ST candidates with equal qualifications and experience. How do you think diversity and inclusion can benefit research projects like this?

Answer: Diversity in research teams brings different perspectives and approaches to problem-solving. In a project like this, diversity can lead to more innovative solutions and a broader range of insights. It can also promote a more inclusive scientific community and create opportunities for underrepresented groups to contribute significantly to cutting-edge research.
