Job Description:
Purpose & Accountabilities
- Leading R&D programs in Novel Catalytic Materials whose purpose it is to support Shell, CRI/Criterion business
- This team plays a critical role by aiding Project Leads through the delivery of timely, accurate and reproducible data for the development of new catalysts in refining, renewables and chemicals applications
- The team is responsible for catalyst preparation, characterization and testing using High throughput experimentation/Micro flow equipment
Accountabilities include, but are not restricted to:
- Safe operation of the catalyst preparation, characterization and EE labs, including participation in safety audits, Change Management, chemicals management, and upkeep of facilities.
- Demonstrate initiative by suggesting and implementing lab improvement projects through application of LEAN tools and techniques.
Dimensions
- Functional supervision of the daily activities of experimentalists
- Experience in handling catalyst preparation, characterization and testing units
- Requirement for hands on synthesis and testing of catalysts/materials
- Interface with project leads across global catalyst R&D and manufacturing centers to interpret data, plan and execute experiments.
- Train new staff in the operation of the units
- Liaison with academic institutes to develop programs in areas of interest, keeping a long-term perspective
Qualifications:
Educational Qualifications:
- PhD in Chemistry, applied Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry with specialization in Catalyst synthesis (incl. Functionalized Mesoporous materials, bulk metal oxides, Zeolites, Amorphous Silica-Alumina, nanomaterials) and Catalyst testing with proven track record on Catalyst invention capabilities 5+ years experience in leading and delivering catalyst R&D projects
Skills and Requirements
- Good knowledge of catalysis and/or chemical processes. Expertise in delivery of catalytic materials in Refining and Chemicals applications
- Good knowledge of scale up of catalysts for commercial deployment for different applications
Estimate and manage budgets (capex and opex) - Strong foundation in catalysis (materials and process) in hydroprocessing in the form of technical reports, patents and publications
- Strong safety skills include: MSDS awareness, chemical storage, waste disposal, proper handling of toxic or hazardous materials and familiarity with safe laboratory operating principles
- Hand on experience with high throughput heterogeneous catalyst synthesis, characterization and testing tools
- Excellent data analysis, troubleshooting and problem solving skills in different application areas
- Good experience in leading a team of experimentalists
- Excellent communication skills and a team player mind set who has tendency to complement work across the team.
